Almost uniquely, I was just looking forward to painting whatever the outcome. I have always liked one element of all my paintings. More often than not, I've liked the overall effect, the ongoing magical effect of paint, once I've finished. And I can do it again. Get more practice.
I had been working, tidying the path in the wildlife garden (Quaker Burial Ground) I volunteer in when I saw the table at the far end of the path from where I was working. Again, it was the light. The table wasn't bathed in sunlight, but the scene shone with greens and yellows, browns and blues. That's my painting on Monday and I took several photographs on my smartphone.
I really enjoyed painting this, working through the sections in order. There is much I can do better. But, you know what? It's not a test. As a young four, five year-old boy, I loved folding my duffle coat on the couch, transforming it into terrain in my imagination, for my toy figures. I got lost in my own world of the making stories. And today, I felt the very same feeling of delight in playfully creating and telling this story with colour. Painting is a pleasure. It really is
