Gordon, my art tutor friend, suggested one day to me that painting brick was one of the most difficult, challenging and interesting subjects to paint. 'Really?', I said. I had my doubts. Yet, each morning, as I looked out of my skylight bedroom window with my near daily Pulse of the Pigeon magazine for my choir Whatsapp group, I took more and more interest in the brickwork of the buildings behind my flat. They were really interesting, forming all sorts of aging patterns. Rain gave it a translucent sheen. Could I paint it?

Brickworks One to Three became my first exhibition above the window on my landing at the foot of the stairs. And every morning, it makes me smile. I did that!
