Painted from a photograph, taken while on holiday in Galloway, our path was blocked by this hungry herd of cows, including youngsters. It might have been ok to carry on through the gate and on upwards to the viewpoint across the valleys of the copse. But it was not to be. The copse, painted with hues of gold, remained unvisited but a prominent landmark of the area we were visiting.

This is one of the first paintings I did. I was pleased by the way I suggested the movement of a small herd without delineating each one. The copse remained tantalisingly out of reach! In part, it was practice in using a colour swatch, ie adding other colours or hues to the first colour to see what happens.

And the bread? It just happened to be there on the same day. On retiring, I had wanted to learn how to bake bread. This is one of my first efforts!

My partner told me to frame it, so I did. My first ever framed painting hangs in my living room, a reminder of a wonderful holiday and beautiful light.
