Houses live and die: there is a time for building
And a time for living and for generation
And a time for the wind to break the loosened pane.
T S Eliot
I'm still working on the project, As it is and What if...? This is the same house I painted before, as seen through temporary fencing. Having taken time to find a subject to paint, it has grown to offer a series of paintings, sketches and drawings and photographs. I am absolutely loving it.
I suppose there is a risk of getting bored, painting the same subject. In this case, for me, the reverse is true. I have enjoyed the challenge of gauging the house from front and back. I did have a fleeting thought it would end disastrously, but keep going and see. And, anyway, would that be so bad? No, I'd probably learn more.
I love the colours, the proportions. I noticed the grounding behind the windows and decided to leave it. I am particularly pleased with the temporary fencing, blocking part of the stone wall.
Next is moving on to the What if... stage. I'll probably continue with drawing before painting. I have lots of ideas for how it might be, but depicting them on paper will need thinking through.
What a great way to work, though! I do like the way one task encourages you to do other things too. Thank you, my friend, Margaret, for suggesting it!
