First snowfall
A4 paper, acrylic, 25 January 2021
Progess shots

This is a painting of the view along the central path in the Arundel Avenue Quaker Burial Ground, Wildlife Community Garden. I visited a couple of days ago and took some photographs with overnight snow on the ground and fresh snow falling. For my zoom Art class this morning, our task was to practise painting a landscape with cool colours. What would it be like to paint snow? Here's my first go!I really like the browns in the grassy foreground.I made a couple of misjudgements. One was with the gravestones on the left. I got the angle wrong. The second was forgetting to paint the wall before the shrubs and tree. Or is it? I was able to change the angle of the stones easily with acrylics. I painted the wall around the tree and put the shrubs back in. I wish I'd put some more leaf structures on the central bush, but it's ok. Overall, I'm really pleased with the outcome and looking forward to viewing it on my living room window ledge, perhaps, seeing new elements of the painting, over the coming week. I especially like that you can see the snow falling.
