Progess shots

From a photograph in the Quaker Burial Ground Wildlife Community Garden, this painting held challenges for painting many varied tones and hues. It was a warm day, which lit up parts of the canopy. There is also dense undergrowth. I drew a sketch first, which guided my positioning of the trunks together. I also spend time before doing anything to notice how the scene is composed. At some point in the process of painting, I moved away from the photograph towards something deeper within me. This is painting!
