Washing Up
A4 paper, acrylic, 13 April 2020
Progess shots

This is a very ordinary still life. Our tutor had set us a goal of choosing some household objects and painting them. I looked around at the washing up on the drainer, double cafetiere and all. My choice was also influenced by an exercise in Hashim Akib's Vibrant Acrylics' book. It would involve trying to paint glass, something which I was growing to enjoy, difficult though it is. The perspectives are not quite right, but as a piece, I was pleased with it. Of course, during the painting, I had told myself it was rubbish! But I kept going.
I had a spare frame. I just needed to add some colour to the borders. And now it sits in my study/spare room. It sums up how the ordinary can transform into artful.
