Waste Ground Two
A4 paper, acrylic, 14 August 2020
Progess shots

This couple of paintings turned into a study in green and yellow. It is a patch of land, which is the same, yet always changing. The way the land undulates. The shrubbery thick with green at certain times of the year. Then, seemingly, barren and empty. Save it isn't. I've been reflectng on why I called it wasteland or waste ground. It is an old council tip, for sure, but nonetheless home and food larder for many birds and insects. I've seen starlings, various tits, robins, blackbirds and finches all make their home or feed on the brambles and berries in plenty. It is not a waste land. For the birds, it is where they live.
